www.emnrd.state.nm.us/PRD/Rockhound.htmSpring Canyon Park is part of Rockhound State Park, and offers picnic and other day-use facilities.
Just before you reach Rockhound State Park, turn south at the sign for the park. It sits in a boxed enclosure, giving you a sense of both beauty and isolation. Scattered about on the slopes are semiprecious gem stones, for which Rockhound State Park was named. Picnicking is encouraged, but camping isn't allowed. To access a mountain hiking trail, head for the last picnic table on your right as you face the entrance. The rare ibex (a wild goat originally from Iran) may be seen in the Park.
